In July 2011, the FDA approved Xeomin for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles in the forehead region. Xeomin is a botulinum toxin type A injectable, and it is the newest competitor to BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport.
Xeomin is similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic in many ways. Like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Xeomin works by paralyzing the facial muscles responsible for the formation of wrinkles. It also has similarities in regard to the length of time before you can see the full results (approximately one week) and the amount of time your results will last (approximately three to six months).
There is one main difference between these two options as well. Xeomin does not have any additives, so there is less of a risk of developing antibodies which may minimize the effectiveness of your treatment. However, it is important to remember that the longevity of Xeomin has not yet been tested, and this treatment does not have the long track record of success enjoyed by BOTOX® Cosmetic.
The risks associated with Xeomin are similar to the risks for BOTOX® Cosmetic, and they are equally rare. These include:
- The potential for the injectable to spread to other parts of the body
- Bruising at the injection site
- Allergic reactions to the treatment
At your initial consultation, our Denver aestheticians will explain the differences between these treatments in detail so that you can make a fully informed decision about which one will best meet your needs.

At Facial Aesthetics, we understand that you have unique skin care needs which require a customized approach to deliver the exceptional results you desire. This is especially true for people with ethnic skin, since they may experience certain issues that are not present when treating skin with lighter pigmentation.
Our Denver aestheticians have been treating patients with ethnic skin for almost 20 years, and we understand the unique issues you may face. We will tailor your procedure to address these needs to ensure the best possible outcome.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a very popular treatment to eliminate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the forehead region. It is effective or all skin types, and people with ethnic skin generally enjoy excellent results. The only issue to be aware of is that the needles used for your BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment may result in minor bruising, marks, or redness. Since ethnic skin takes slightly longer to recover from these minor side effects, you should plan to undergo treatment at least two weeks before a big event to ensure the bruising or redness subsides before the event.

Spider veins are a very common issue affecting many men and women throughout the country. They are small veins close to the surface of the skin which take on a red or blue color and look like a spider web. Spider veins occur most frequently on the legs, although it is possible to have them on other parts of your body as well.
At Facial Aesthetics, our Denver aestheticians offer sclerotherapy treatments to help you get rid of unsightly spider veins. In sclerotherapy, a chemical solution is injected into your spider veins, causing them to collapse and be absorbed by the body. This minimally invasive treatment is very safe, and it will help restore circulation to the area where you experience spider veins.
There is no need to let your spider veins interfere with your life any longer. Sclerotherapy treatment is easy and pain free, providing you with beautiful results that will boost your confidence.

Laser skin resurfacing has become a popular way of improving skin tone and texture to produce a more youthful appearance. Two of the most common technologies used for this procedure are DOT therapy and Fraxel lasers. Both can produce excellent results.
DOT therapy (Dermal Optical Thermolysis) is very effective at treating sun damaged skin, fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars. This fractional laser treatment is applied in a matrix pattern, delivering tiny dots of laser energy to the skin. DOT therapy is very versatile, giving our Denver aestheticians tremendous control over how deep the laser goes, the shape of the matrix pattern, and how tightly the dots are placed together.
Fraxel laser treatments also provide excellent results for patients looking to reverse the signs of aging. The healing time is very quick with this procedure, and you will continue to see improvements in your skin for up to a year as new collagen grows.
Ultimately, the skill and experience of the healthcare professional delivering the treatment is more important than the actual treatment chosen. When performed by a plastic surgeon or aesthetician who has the proper knowledge of the procedure, each of these technologies can provide you with beautiful results.
At Facial Aesthetics, our Denver aestheticians have extensive experience performing laser skin resurfacing procedures. This knowledge and experience has helped us achieve excellent results with both DOT therapy and Fraxel laser treatments.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most commonly used injectable treatments for the reduction of fine lines and facial wrinkles in the forehead region. It works by paralyzing the muscles in the area, reducing the muscle contractions that lead to the formation of wrinkles.
In most cases, BOTOX® Cosmetic will last approximately four months. However, the exact duration of your results will vary based on several factors such as amount of BOTOX® Cosmetic used for your treatment and the strength of your muscles. In general, the more units of BOTOX® Cosmetic injected into the region, the longer the results will last. Also, if you have very strong facial muscles, they may be more resistant to the paralyzing function of the procedure. As a result, you may need to use more BOTOX® Cosmetic to achieve the same duration of results.
Based on the factors mentioned above, it is possible for your results to wear off slightly earlier than this four month estimate. Similarly, it is also possible for your results to last as long as six or eight months. In order to maintain your wrinkle-free appearance longer than this time period, you will need to return to our Littleton RN injectors for a follow-up treatment.
When trying to determine the right time to have your next BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure, it is best to simply look in the mirror. As your facial muscles begin to move again, you may gradually see the fine lines in your forehead region return. Once this occurs, you may want to call Facial Aesthetics to schedule your next appointment.

The enduring popularity of BOTOX® Cosmetic is undeniable. Each year, millions of Americans turn to this injectable treatment to reduce the appearance of forehead wrinkles and frown lines. But recently, there has been a noticeable change in the demographic of BOTOX® Cosmetic patients across the country, and it has led to the development of a new term to describe the phenomenon – “Bro-tox.”
Bro-tox refers to a growing trend which has seen a dramatic increase in the number of men seeking BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments in recent years. In fact, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons estimates that more than 300,000 men across the country opted for BOTOX® Cosmetic last year, representing a 10% increase from the year before.
It is likely that this figure will continue to rise in 2012, as many men have reported receiving Bro-tox as a Christmas gift from wives and girlfriends. Interestingly, many of the men receiving these gifts were not the typical men you would expect to be going for cosmetic procedures. Often, they were young – in their 30s – and have jobs or hobbies which many people may consider to be “rugged.” Yet many of these men have been thrilled with their results.
Why have so many men become intrigued by reversing the signs of aging with “Bro-tox?” Perhaps they find that a more youthful appearance has helped them in business or social interactions. Perhaps the elimination of frown lines has helped many of these men appear friendlier, improving the first impressions they make. Or maybe the growing acceptance of BOTOX® Cosmetic among celebrities has opened the eyes of many Americans to the wonders which can be accomplished with this nonsurgical skin care treatment. Regardless, it appears that the Bro-tox trend is here to stay.

Ever since receiving FDA approval in 2002, BOTOX® Cosmetic has been the most popular nonsurgical treatment in the country for facial wrinkles and fine lines. Millions of patients opt for these injections every year to reduce the appearance of forehead wrinkles and frown lines. Due to a lack of competition, BOTOX® Cosmetic has been able to dominate the market, enjoying a level of success unparalleled by other injectable treatments.
Recently, BOTOX® Cosmetic has been facing competition for the first time ever. In 2009, the FDA approved Dysport for use in treating the same issues that are addressed by BOTOX® Cosmetic.
On the surface, these two injectable treatments seem virtually identical. Both are used to relax the facial muscles that contract to form wrinkles. Both also take effect gradually, and must be repeated every three to four months to maintain the results.
So what are the differences between the two, and which treatment will best suit your needs? The answer to the latter question will largely be based on your unique aesthetic goals, and our Denver aestheticians can help you make that decision during your initial consultation. However, it is important to answer the first question so that you can be fully informed regarding your options.
There are several slight differences between BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport related to the formula and the application of these treatments. The Dysport solution is lower in concentration than the BOTOX® Cosmetic solution. This may have two impacts on your treatment. First, the results may not last as long when using Dysport. Second, this lower concentration of the formula may cause Dysport to spread throughout your face more easily than BOTOX® Cosmetic. However, this risk can be reduced when Dysport is administered by a highly skilled and experienced medical professional.
Ultimately, both procedures should deliver exceptional results that take years off of your appearance. And since they are both temporary solutions to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles, you may want to try both treatments to see which one you like better.

Laser skin rejuvenation is an excellent option if you would like to restore a more youthful appearance to your skin or treat a variety of unsightly skin conditions. This safe, effective treatment is minimally invasive, and you will experience minimal, if any, downtime.
During your laser skin rejuvenation procedure, our Denver aestheticians will use a laser to vaporize damaged skin cells in order to stimulate the growth of new skin cells underneath the surface. These new skin cells will produce a smoother, more consistent facial appearance. The procedure is ideally suited to treat:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne and other scars
- Aged or sun-damaged skin
- Liver spots
- Pigmentation issues such as brown spots or freckles
At Facial Aesthetics, we use Laser Genesis with many of our laser skin rejuvenation procedures. Laser Genesis stimulates collagen re-growth and promotes cell production by warming the dermis layer of your skin. The light and heat generated by the laser also targets pigmented clusters underneath the surface of your skin, achieving the following benefits:
- Tighter pores
- Reduced redness
- Alleviation of minor imperfections
- An overall healthier complexion
You will generally need between four and six treatments to achieve optimal results. Our aestheticians may also recommend a skin maintenance program to help you maintain your results for as long as possible.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is best known for its cosmetic applications. Since receiving FDA approval, it has most commonly been used to treat facial wrinkles, particularly:
- Crow’s feet (lines around the eyes)
- Forehead wrinkles
- Glabellar lines
- Upper Lip Lines
While this is the most common and best-known use for BOTOX® Cosmetic, wrinkles are not the only condition that can be treated by this miracle drug. In recent years, doctors have discovered a variety of other applications for BOTOX® Cosmetic and as a result, it has developed into a jack-of-all-trades treatment.
Some of the other uses of BOTOX® Cosmetic include the treatment of:
- Migraine headaches
- Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
- Muscle response disorders such as cerebral palsy or multiple sclerosis
- Enlarged prostate and overactive bladders
- Speech impediments caused by vocal cord problems
- Limb tightness and spasms in stroke victims
While not all of these applications have been approved for use by the FDA, Allegan is currently seeking approval for many of these conditions. However, doctors are still permitted to prescribe BOTOX® Cosmetic for many of these off-label uses if they determine it is the best treatment option.
At Facial Aesthetics, our Denver Registered Nurse Injectors regularly administer BOTOX® Cosmetic to reduce the appearance of moderate to deep facial wrinkles. This minimally invasive treatment can be completed in about 15 minutes, and no anesthesia is required. There is almost no downtime, and you should start seeing the result in a few days. Your results should last about three to four months. In order to maintain them for a longer period of time, you will need to return to our office for another set of injections.
Please contact Facial Aesthetics today to schedule your initial consultation. We serve patients in the Denver, Colorado area.
